Michael J McKelvey and Dr. Charles Stephens both had individual visions and saw the vast need for a comprehensive, residential treatment facility for substance abusers located in Colorado Springs.
Peak Addiction Recovery Center (PARC) is the outworking of that shared vision. PARC, a non-profit corporation, is committed to providing a foundation for recovery from substance abuse through education, support, spiritual discovery and recognition of the need for life-long involvement in a recovering community. This, the organisers believe, fosters a life of health, prosperity and happiness.
PARC is committed to serving those who are genuinely seeking freedom from the bondage of substance abuse and addiction. PARC is dedicated to an inclusive and non-discriminatory policy for all adults actively seeking recovery from their addictions.
Successful completion of the programme is dependent on the recovering addict's willingness to adopt a life-style based on the principles set forth in various twelve-step programs and to commit them to an on-going programme in a community support system.
Both founders have witnessed, many times, the pain and suffering affiliated with addiction - to the individual addict as well as to those close to them and their community. Michael and Charles brought certification for PARC though the American Society of Addiction Medicine. They both have as well a strong clinical and administrative background in this field.
Being involved personally in the substance abuse community, their concern is on a heartfelt level. Dr. Stephens ran a successful family practice in Denver, Colorado for seventeen years and, after retiring from that practice, pursued his certification in the field of addiction medicine. Michael had recently served as the Site Director of The Childrens ARK; a treatment facility for troubled teens. He was Director of Admissions at a local nonprofit college and most recently served as operations manager for Alano Recovery Homes in Colorado Springs.
