The church with members in two countries

The members of McKelvey's Grove Presbyterian Church live in both parts of Ireland. The church at Loughbratty in Castleblaney, Co.Monaghan spans the border.

McKelvey's Grove congregation was founded in the mid 1840s. Its first minister, Rev. Matthew Macauley, served for over 40 years having been installed twice! Situated at the north of Mullyash Mountain, about six miles from Castleblaney, it comprises 32 families, 14 of whom live in Northern Ireland. Perhaps unique in the Presyterian Church, the congregational treasurer keeps two sets of accounts, one in UK sterling, the other in IRL punts.

McKelvey's has a very close relationship with its near neighbour, Garmany's Grove. Services alternate between the meeting houses each week. As well as uniting for worship, the Sunday School, Presbyterian Women’s Association, Midweek and Youth Fellowship (with Clarkesbridge) are also joined. The future is bright with many young families in a stable farming community.
