Poems for Pre-Schoolers and songs for dogs

Roaches roaming in your cereal bowl? Yum! How about spiders spinning webs around you while you sleep? Or Songs only Dogs can Hear?

Or lice building houses in your hair? Sound like fun? Bug lovers everywhere will delight in “Locus Pocus - Poems to bug you”, a wonderfully creepy-crawly collection of poetry.

Douglas McKelvey's fun, catchy rhymes paired with Caldecott-medalist Richard Egielski's humourous paintings make Locust Pocus an insect extravaganza for any entomology enthusiast. Parents may want to wash their hands after reading this book, but their kids will love it!

One parent wrote,”My five and eight year olds loved it and so did I. The wonderful little poems and the appropriate gross pictures were the perfect mix. A great book for kids and dads!”.

Douglas is a published poet and songwriter who found inspiration for his writing from his earliest years growing up in Texas. "As a child I had an intuitive sense that the world around me was a cloak and a veil, hiding something beneath it that was by nature mysterious, eternal, and more wonderful than anything I could see with my eyes or touch with my hands."

The joy of discovering life's hidden mysteries and experiencing their beauties and sorrows shines through Douglas’ poetry and stories.

Born in New Hampshire but raised in Texas, Douglas McKelvey was an eager reader from the first grade, an eagerness which led naturally into writing. Some early “traveling about” ended when he had the opportunity to come to Nashville to work with The Art House Foundation. He now lives outside Nashville with his wife, Lise Maria, their daughter, Anastina Mansi, and a big black dog named Luke.

He has since founded his own song publishing company (Songs Only Dogs Can Hear), married, and moved to Williamson County. His projects include songs, children’s books, and Young Readers’ novels.
